NEW HOLLAND, Pa. — Nexans Technical Manager for LAN Standardization Dave Hess has earned the Int’l Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 1906 award. Nexans is the parent company for copper and fiber-optic cabling technology and solutions provider Berk-Tek.
Created in 2004, the 1906 Award, named after its founding year, is a public tribute to the contributions of technical experts worldwide who have been involved in developing IEC International Standards.
Nominated by a support group at the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), Hess received the award for his contribution in developing the subcommittee SC46C for IEC’s Technical Committee 46 (TC46).
TC46 is the umbrella for international standards for communications cable, while SC46C explicitly focuses on defining balanced twisted pair cable transmission properties, as well as physical material properties specific to these copper cables.
Hess is the chairman of the U.S. National Committee for the IEC standard, corresponding to TIA-568 standards, which is incorporated into the ISO 11801 standard which specifies general-purpose telecommunications cable systems globally for a wide range of IP and network applications (data, voice, BAS, etc.)
