NFPA 1600 Recommended to 9-11 Commission as National Standard

WASHINGTON
Published: April 29, 2004

The American National Standards Institution (ANSI) has
recommended the National Fire and Protection Association
(NFPA) 1600 Standard on Disaster/Emergency Management and
Business Continuity Programs to the 9-11 Commission as its
choice for the national preparedness standard.

The commission, also known as the National Commission on
Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, will consider the
recommendation as it prepares its final report for the
president and Congress, expected this summer.

NFPA 1600 creates criteria for disaster and emergency
management and business continuity programs, as well as
identifies methodologies for implementing such plans and
provides a list of relevant organizations within those
fields.

The standard is available free online at HREF=http://www.nfpa.org>www.nfpa.org.
