The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is moving ahead in the development of the NFPA 5000 Building Code(tm) by forming Regional Building Code Development Committees to gather input from building code officials and all other affected parties. “NFPA’s open consensus process is based on simple, but important, fundamentals,” says George Miller, NFPA president. “We have a long history of full participation, a completely open process and a transparent system with rules that ensure its integrity. NFPA’s code-making system is the system of inclusion.”
Three regional committees have been established and will meet twice annually. The members of the committees include state building code officials and representatives of state building professional organizations, among others. The committees will develop proposals for submission to the building code technical committees and provide comments on recommended changes to the proposals. In addition, building officials from across the nation will convene at the association’s Building Officials Forum on Nov. 3-4 in Quincy, Mass.
