QUINCY, Mass. — The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is moving toward approving interim changes to NFPA 731 — Standard for the Installation of Electronic Premises Security Systems.
Changes being made as tentative interim amendments (TIAs) include reductions in the power supply requirements and the requirements for detection circuit supervision. The first change switches the minimum number of hours a secondary power supply should be able to operate an electronic premise security system from 24 to four. The other TIA eliminates the words “single-ground fault” from sections that mandate the monitoring of wiring connections. They now only refer to monitoring so that the occurrence of a single open condition can be indicated.
NFPA 731, which sets standards for the installation of electronic security systems, was passed by NFPA last June.
