NFPA Online Activities for Kids Teach Safety Awareness
IRVING, TEXAS
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is helping teach children learn valuable safety lessons with its new online animated characters, the Uh-Ohs™. The block-shaped critters may be cute, but are otherwise hopelessly inept when it comes to understanding the importance of safety.
Interactive online games give children the opportunity to learn about safety as they take action to help the Uh-Ohs make smart decisions and stay out of trouble. Kids can help the Uh-Ohs learn about topics such as fire and burn safety, bike safety and water safety.
The whimsical cast of characters serve as a reminder for children to be careful and watch out for dangers, says Lorraine Carli, NFPA’s vice president of communications.
“The Uh-Ohs provide an entertaining way for kids to learn some important lessons while having fun,” she says.
As part of the initiative, NFPA is offering fire departments and other fire safety educators throughout the country the ability to purchase and distribute the Uh-Oh figurines as another way to promote awareness of fire and other hazards in their community.
The figurines come with a secret code that is unique to each Uh-Oh and allows access into the Uh-Ohs’ online world. For a demonstration and to enter the Uh-Ohs’ world, visit www.nfpa4kids.org.
