NFPA Scholarship to Honor Recent Retiree

QUINCY, Mass.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has established a scholarship to honor Arthur E. Cote for career accomplishments that include being recognized as a leading authority on fire sprinkler protection and technology.

The Arthur E. Cote Scholarship will distinguish and offer support to individuals pursuing a career in fire protection engineering.

In 1977, Cote came to NFPA charged with the responsibility of technical oversight and special projects. Prior to his retirement in December, he was executive vice president and chief engineer overseeing 10 operating departments. Cote is current president of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), vice chair of the American National Standards Institute Board of Directors where he also serves as chair of the finance committee and vice chair of the Confederation of Fire Protection Associations International (CFPA-I).

The Arthur E. Cote Scholarship is for undergraduate students enrolled in fire protection engineering programs. The scholarship is part of the NFPA Memorial Fund established in 1992 to honor individuals, both living and deceased, who are or have been strong fire safety advocates. The Memorial Fund is administered by a committee appointed by the NFPA Board of Directors.

A college or university will be allowed to nominate one or two full- or part-time undergraduate students enrolled in a fire protection engineering program who intend to pursue a career in fire safety engineering. The candidates must also exhibit academic achievement, leadership qualities and an appreciation for volunteerism.

A minimum of one scholarship per year of at least $5,000 will be awarded to one or more students in either the United States or Canada. Applicants nominated by his or her campus must submit a completed application, a nomination letter addressing their qualifications/achievements and undergraduate academic transcripts, plus a letter of recommendation from a faculty member. All materials must reach the committee by than April 1.

For further information and an application visit NFPA’s Web site at www.nfpa.org.
