The National Institute For Certification in Engineering
Technologies (NICET) recently announced it has approved
with leaders of the American Fire Sprinkler Association
(AFSA) a Memorandum of Understanding regarding mutual
cooperation in the redesign and validation of the NICET
Fire Protection Engineering Technology certification
programs. AFSA will contribute $100,000 in direct and in-
kind contributions to support the project.

NICET certifies knowledge and experience in more than 35
engineering technology specialty areas. Fire protection is
one of NICET’s largest markets and the four programs
currently being offered continue as some of the most
popular and fastest growing areas within NICET.

The incentive for the redesign reflects the changes that
have taken place in the fire protection-engineering field,
which has changed the way AFSA designs and delivers its
training programs. According to AFSA President Steve Muncy,
it’s important that both organizations work together to
update the current programs so they reflect the most widely
used standards of recent day.
