Nobel Peace Prize Winner to Keynote ASIS 2012
ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei, former director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), will serve as a keynote speaker at ASIS 2012. The 58th annual conference will be held Sept. 10-13 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.
The IAEA is an intergovernmental organization within the United Nations. During his three four-year terms (1997-2009) as director general of the agency, ElBaradei was lauded for his efforts to make nuclear technology available for peaceful purposes while working to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons. In October 2005, ElBaradei and the IAEA were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
“The impact of Dr. ElBaradei’s work to strengthen the non-proliferation regime is far reaching,” ASIS President Eduard Emde says. “His advocacy of nuclear disarmament and his dedication to the peaceful use of nuclear energy as a means to increase quality of life for many around the world is remarkable. Seminar attendees will have an invaluable opportunity to garner Dr. ElBaradei’s unique, first-hand perspectives on global security and international law.”
ElBaradei is scheduled to speak on Sept. 11 (8-9 a.m.). Robert Gates, who served as Secretary of Defense from 2006 to 2011, is also scheduled to provide a keynote address on Sept. 12 (8-9 a.m.). Attendees of the co-located (ISC)² Security Congress are invited to attend both speeches.
More than 200 educational sessions will be presented at ASIS 2012, including expanded IT security offerings in collaboration with (ISC)². The 230,000-square-foot exhibition area will feature the latest security technology from more than 700 companies.
