Northern Illinois Leads U.S. With Codes Requiring Fire Sprinklers in New Construction
ORLANDO, Fla.
The 50th municipality in Illinois just passed an ordinance
that requires fire sprinklers in all new construction
including both commercial and townhomes.
Jim Sashko, fire chief of Buffalo Grove, Ill. and George Michael, fire marshal, worked with the village administrator for more than 2 ½ years to finalize the passage of this ordinance.
According to Sashko, the City Square Footage List provided by the Northern Illinois Fire Sprinker Advisory Board (NIFSAB) was an important tool in benchmarking Buffalo Grove in a comparison with other communities. Sashko said that he did not want the community to slip when it came to life safety issues.
