The National Systems Contractors Association (NSCA)
announced today its first group of Certified Electronic
Systems Technicians or C-ESTs™. The association tested
nearly 100 candidates at the 2004 NSCA Expo last month in
Las Vegas, held jointly with the 2004 PSA
Security Network Conference.
The test, comprised of a 100-question written portion and
hands-on performance verification exams, certifies
technical expertise in commercial systems.
Specifically, the 40-percent pass-rate test requires
technical knowledge in electrical theory and safety, power
quality and grounding switching devices, terminating
conductors, electronic theory, computer applications and
fiber optics.
The C-EST credential serves as foundation for the advanced
Registered Electronic Systems Integrator or R-ESI™
designation. The credential will be available in Spring
2005 and requires a combination of 8,000 hours of work
experience and 120 hours of systems training.
Results from additional tests held in San Jose, Calif., and
Atlanta will be available soon. Additional exams are
planned for May 26 in Chicago, June 9 in Boston and June 24
