The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reports the number of U.S. high-speed Internet connections increased by 20 percent during the last half of 2003. With a total of 28.2 million lines, the increase came after an 18-percent jump during the first half of the same year, the FCC says.
High-speed cable remains king among broadband access technology with 16.4 million lines, a total increase of 45 percent during 2003.
Asymmetric digital subscriber lines (DSL) increased by 47 percent during 2003, totaling 9.5 million lines.
The remaining 2.3 million high-speed connections were from varying service types like satellite and other wired and wireless technologies.
