NEW YORK — The implementation of the New York Police Department’s body camera program has been delayed months.
As Fox 5 News reports, it will be at least six more months before the body cameras are seen on every NYPD officer.
The program is still in the procurement phase and that the department is still choosing a vendor. Once a vendor is chosen, it can take four to six months before a contract is registered, according to the report.
The NYPD underwent a pilot program back in 2014 to test the use of body cameras in 5 precincts. It looks like the implementation of the program won’t occur until 2017.
