Delaware Hayes High School was recently allotted $50,000 by
its school board for a pilot video camera surveillance
system in an effort to deter bullies. Several parents
voiced concern for the safety of their
children after the suicide of a sophomore at Delaware Hayes
High School.
The deceased student’s parents told the school board that their son was being harassed. The parents believe that led to their son’s decision to take his own life.
The cameras will be installed in hallways and a common area. The surveillance system will not be installed in restrooms or locker rooms. School officials hope that the cameras will deter violence, vandalism and bad behavior.
