On-Net Surveillance Systems Inc. (OnSSI) has been awarded Frost & Sullivan’s 2009 North American Innovation of the Year Award for its intelligent video surveillance software solutions.

In granting the award, the research and consulting firm cited OnSSI’s Ocularis intelligent IP video surveillance platform for its “functionality, unlimited scalability and lower total cost of ownership needed for a smooth transition from a digital surveillance platform to an integrated IP-based security platform.”

Frost & Sullivan presents the award each year to a company that has demonstrated excellence in new products and technologies within its industry.

“Ocularis’ intuitive map-based interface provides uniquely powerful investigation tools that allow immediate access and response to recorded events and data,” says Avanti Chitnis, research analyst, Frost & Sullivan. “Ocularis leverages touch-screen technology and is a simple-to-use, yet advanced tool for modern video surveillance systems.”

Among its attributes, Frost & Sullivan says Ocularis provides a video-centric physical security information management (PSIM) platform to enable the viewing, managing and recording of video from an unlimited number of IP (Internet protocol) and non-IP video surveillance cameras. Incorporating existing analog cameras (using encoders) can reduce overall system costs.

“Our goal with Ocularis’ intuitive map-based interface is to put control of investigation tools in the hands of users, and make possible immediate access and response to live and recorded events and data,” says Gadi Piran, president and CTO of OnSSI.

To select an award recipient, the Frost & Sullivan analyst team tracks new product launches, research and development spending, products in development, new product features and modifications through interviews with market participants and extensive secondary and technology research. All new product launches and products in development in each company are compared and evaluated based on degree of innovation and customer satisfaction.
