ONVIF Updates Tool for Product Conformance Testing

SAN RAMON, Calif. — ONVIF has released a new set of tools intended to help member companies in designing and releasing ONVIF-conformant products to the physical security market.

Effective Nov. 1, member companies will use the revised test tool (v1.02.4) and the accompanying test specification to state whether products are ONVIF-compliant. Testing requirements are now split into multiple documents. They include a base test for IP configuration, device discovery and event handling, real-time viewing and streaming functionality and more.

The group will address questions and feedback about the new test tools and other technical items during the ONVIF Developer’s Forum. The online forum provides enhanced technical support and discussion opportunities.

The feedback from members prompted the organization to update its test tool, ONVIF Steering Committee Chairman Jonas Andersson says.

“The updates reflect the evolution of ONVIF and the value we place on member feedback,” he says. “These changes show our commitment to ensuring that products bearing the ONVIF logo are truly in compliance with our specification.”

Axis Communications, Bosch Security Systems and Sony Corp started ONVIF in 2008. The group’s goal is to ease the integration of network security products with a global standard. It currently has more than 340 member companies and more than 1,100 ONVIF-compliant products on the market.
