SANTA CLARA, Calif.—To improve integration of IP-enabled devices, the Physical Security Interoperability Alliance (PSIA) has developed a second video-management specification that could be ready for ISC West 2010.
An alliance working group of device manufacturers and integrators has released the Recording and Content Management (RaCM) draft for public comment. At the ASIS International show in September, the alliance gave demos of its IP Media Device Specification ratified in March.
The specification standardizes the way recording and content management products interface with other devices on a network. The initiative’s goal is to allow end users to use just one video management software to view recorded video.
“The new proposed specification will enable any security management system to interface with any recording device without the burden of extensive coding and integration efforts,” says Igal Dvir, a working group member and CTO with NICE Systems’ Security Group.
“It will also dramatically increase the openness of security systems as end users and integrators will have the freedom of choice when integrating recording solutions with security management systems,” Dvir adds.
The platform would allow greater freedom to add third-party devices. Vendor video surveillance systems often arrive with proprietary software that can be challenging to blend with off-brand devices, Blaine Frederick, senior engineer with Stanley Convergence Security Solutions’ integrator division, tells SSI.
Feedback on RaCM will be accepted until Oct. 31, and can be submitted via the alliance’s website. The spec can be viewed here.
