Pelco just celebrated its one-millionth toy contribution to the Toys for Tots program, the U.S. Marine Corps’ toy collection and distribution campaign. The video security systems manufacturer has set national records with an average of 150,000 toys per drive for the past several years, and has donated a total of 1,039,936 toys as of 2006.
The Pelco donations began in 1993 with only three employees participating in the campaign. The total number of toys donated at the end of the year’s drive was 808.
During the past 13 years Pelco has engaged in a number of fundraising efforts, from department bake sales and raffles to masquerade balls attended by philanthropists.
“This is our way of reaching out and making a small, positive difference to tens of thousands of needy children, all at once. There can be no more worthy cause than this,” says Pelco President and CEO David L. McDonald
A festive parade and toy presentation ceremony were held on Pelco’s campus to commemorate the company’s one-millionth donation. More than 1,500 Pelco employees attended the festivities.
The Toys for Tots program was established in 1947 by a group of Marine Reservists to help bring the spirit of Christmas giving to America’s needy children.
