Hundreds of Pelco employees, honored guests and the public joined in commemoration of the sixth anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001 in memory of the victims and fallen heroes from the tragedy.
The ceremony, held at the California Memorial, included the lowering of the flag to half-staff and a wreath procession with motor escort accompanied by a piped rendition of “Amazing Grace.” A 21-gun salute, Combined Command “Flyover,” a presentation of a folded American flag and the singing of the National Anthem followed.
“We must never forget the thousands of innocent men and women who went to work that day and never returned home,” says Pelco President and CEO David McDonald. “I strongly believe that every American now shares this responsibility. We must never forget.”
Sept. 11 survivors Chief Anthony Whitaker from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department and Andy Isolano, former FDNY firefighter, were among the honored guests at the ceremony. Other honored guests included retired U.S. Army Sgt. Jude Recendez, who lost both his legs in a roadside bomb explosion in Iraq, and the Combined Command Military Honor Guard.
