PIR Motion Detectors Use Processor to Reduce False Alarms

A new breed of indoor passive infrared (PIR) motion detectors by Bosch Security Systems of Fairport, N.Y., uses sensor data fusion technology to reduce false alarms.  According to Bosch, sensor data fusion involves data comparison from all the detector’s sensors to ascertain a valid target.  An embedded microprocessor gathers data from each sensor in order to determine whether a target is valid or not. The new Bosch technology is said to eliminate false alarms while improving catch performance by 35 percent compared to conventional models.

The ISC-PPR1-W16 uses two pyroelectric sensors as well as a room temperature and light level sensors. The PDL1-W18G uses an additional microwave sensor. Both models are suited for commercial and retail applications or anywhere where false alarms are a problem.
