If residential burglaries in Little Rock, Ark., are any indication, home alarms are not only needed to secure the TV in the living room, but also the Xbox. Little Rock police say that 70 percent of residential burglars in the city thus far this year have broken in specifically to steal video-game systems.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette says that makes video-game systems the third-most likely target of thieves behind DVD players and televisions.
While that may sound strange at first, the main target of the thefts – the Xbox360 – has been in huge demand since its introduction in November, with low supply and waiting lists to buy one. Right now, a premium system is selling on eBay for between $700 and $1,500.
“Whatever the hot items are, burglars are looking for them,” Sgt. Terry Hastings of the Little Rock Police Department told the Democrat-Gazette. “For a while, it was espresso machines or video cameras.”
