Police Ask Residents for Surveillance Video to Help Find Prison Escapees

New York State Troopers are asking residents in upstate New York for video surveillance footage that may help authorities find two prisoners who escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility.

DANNEMORA, N.Y. – Police are asking residents here for surveillance video to help the find two prisoners who escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility.

Two convicted murderers – Richard Matt, 48, and David Sweat, 34 – escaped from the 3,000-inmate facility on June 6. The duo used power tools to cut through brick and metal walls and pipes before breaking through a manhole to freedom.

On June 18, Matt and Sweat were added to the U.S. Marshals Service’s 15 Most Wanted Fugitives list.

In their quest to find the inmates, New York State Troopers are asking homeowners and hunters in the area who have video surveillance or trail cameras to check their footage for signs of suspicious activity, Associated Press reports.

Sweat was serving a life sentence in the killing of a sheriff’s deputy. Matt was serving 25 years to life in the beating death and dismemberment of his former boss.

More than 600 law enforcement officers are still involved in the search.
