ORLAND PARK, Ill. — You may be used to seeing cops driving around town, serving as a watchful eye for the public’s safety. Now, that eye has been extended to the sky.
The Orland Park Police Department will be operating a crime-fighting drone that shoots 4K video surveillance, according to ABC 7 Chicago.
The drone will assist in missing person searches, gathering images of accidents and other instances that pose an immediate threat to public safety.

Orland Park is the first municipal police department in the state to operate its own drone, according to the report.
“I think the public demands that we use more technology and work smarter, and this is a way for us to work smarter and use technology at the same time,” said Orland Park Police Department Chief Tim McCarthy.
