Police in Arlington, Texas, Hope to Implement Body Camera Program

The department had a pilot program last year and will now pitch for $2.9 million in public funding.

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Arlington Police Department made a pitch to City Council for $2.9 million in funding next year to purchase 350 body cameras and video surveillance storage equipment, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The pitch comes after the department conducted a $50,000 pilot program last year during the public’s cry for more transparency after a string of police shootings. The Arlington PD was not immune to those controversies: A rookie officer shot and killed an unarmed college student after responding to a burglary call at a car dealership.
