Port OKs Video Surveillance System Contract

LONG BEACH, Calif.
Published: June 22, 2003

The Port of Long Beach (Calif.) recently approved a contract to install a port-wide video surveillance system. The port has already been awarded a $ 4 million grant for the camera installation from the federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Citing security reasons, the port declined to say how many cameras will be set up or where they will be placed. Los Angeles-based Steiny and Co. was awarded $ 3.2 million to set up the port camera system.

More than 40 percent of the nation’s shipping moves through the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.
