Precise Biometrics has contracted with the United States Department of Defense (DoD) to provide a biometric fingerprint reading system to be integrated with the department’s existing smart card security system. Dubbed the Precise BioAccess™ SC, the system will work with the DoD’s Common Access Card, a smart card security standard that manages identification for the department’s 4.3 million employees.
The card system, once fully implemented, will be used for physical access to buildings, computer access and to receive medical care. Precise BioAccess SC will make its commercial debut Nov. 12-16 at Comdex Fall 2001 in Las Vegas. Based on Precise Match-on-Card™ technology, Precise BioAccess will work by storing and matching fingerprints right on the card, meaning the authorization happens in a secure environment and not on an unsecured system. It also means that the fingerprint is directly linked to an individual so that no PIN or additional access card is required.
