Precise Biometrics AB has signed a long-term agreement with French company Gemplus S.C.A., a manufacturer of smart cards. The accord means that Gemplus will buy biometric fingerprint readers, which combine biometric technology with smart cards, from Precise Biometrics during a one-year period. “Smart cards and biometric technology work perfectly together. It pleases us that Gemplus has already had great success with our product and has now chosen to strengthen its relationship with us. We will continue to supply high-quality readers and complement these with our latest technology,” says Peter Höjerback, CEO of Precise Biometrics.

With the reader, a user can log onto his or her computer without a password. All that is required is a smart card and the user’s fingerprint. Precise Biometrics markets a range of in-house developed products for biometric identification using fingerprints. Gemplus has a 37-percent market share in supplying smart card-based solutions worldwide.
