Protection One is working to educate end users about alarm
companies with misleading sales tactics that are
detrimental to customers and the entire industry. According
to the commercial and residential security service
provider, some companies, when luring new customers, will
tell them their current provider uses old equipment,
doesn’t monitor their account or has gone out of business.
The company will take over accounts with a new contract and
make adjustments to the equipment, all while the customer
may receive an additional bill for security services from
another company.
Customers are often told all they must do to switch
services is sign a new monitoring contract, Protection One
says. They aren’t told that they may have to pay the
remaining balance from their current contract to switch
services. Sometimes they must pay to replace security
equipment owned by their previous alarm provider, but the
new company has already removed it.
