The drive for a reduction of police service to chronic false alarm abusers is now reaching north of the border. Police in the Canadian city of Quebec City are considering lowering the priority of home and commercial alarm calls because of what it says is a false alarm problem there.
CBC News reports that of the 25,000 alarm calls Quebec City police respond to per year, only 2 percent are not false.
Quebec City already has existing false alarm fines of $50 per false alarm call, but police are considering raising it.
Besides lowering the priority of burglar alarm calls, Quebec City police are also considering not responding at all to alarms at addresses with more than four false alarms in a calendar year.
