PITTSBURG, Calif. — A series of random shootings here have Pittsburg City Council considering the installation of video surveillance cameras along Highway 4. City Council will vote on Monday whether to adopt the surveillance equipment, which could cost $100,000.
“It’s scary,” Pittsburg resident James Rand told NBC Bay Area. “You never know a stray bullet can hit an innocent person. I think [surveillance cameras] would definitely help the neighborhood out and crack down on all this violence that’s happening out here.”
The most recent victim of the random shootings is a 25-year-old mother of four.
At least 20 shootings have occurred on the freeways since November, according to California Highway Patrol. Investigators say most of the shootings appear to be gang related.
