Redmond (Ore.) to Install 14 Municipal Security Cameras

Published: January 8, 2013

REDMOND, Ore. — The city council here unanimously approved spending $120,000 to install surveillance cameras throughout the area to deter crime and vandalism, during a meeting Tuesday.

The city has hired electronic security integrator Reece Complete Security Solutions of Wilsonville, Ore., to install 14 camera at city parks and other facilities, KTVZ.com reports. There are also plans to add 19 more in the coming years as funding allows.

Officials say the cameras are not an attempt to spy on citizens’ daily activities; rather, they are to help protect public property. In the past nine years, vandalism has cost the city more than $92,000. Redmond police say it’s more cost effective to install cameras than to hire more patrol officers.
