Small companies would have difficulty conducting business, should a major attack occur, a new report issued by business organization the Conference Group finds. According to the report, while most midsize companies regard security spending as important, a large minority want to minimize the expense, Newsday reports.
The report, sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security, also found that nearly half of all companies surveyed nationally had not increased security spending since 9/11. In fact, increases in security spending are lowest among small firms.
Spending remains low despite 80 percent of those surveyed reporting a disruption in business travel and 47 percent claiming reduced revenues in the aftermath of the attacks.
