Report to Forecast Growth of IP Video Door Phone Market

AUSTIN, Texas — A soon to be published report by IMS Research will explore the potential for IP video door phones to surpass similar analog-based equipment over the next five years.

The “World Market for Video Door Phones — 2011 Edition” report suggests if IP is to replace legacy video door phone technology, providers will need to compete in smaller projects.

This will require more competitive pricing and for IP companies to provide education and product training to electrical installers who specify the equipment.

Because IP systems continue to mature throughout the security sector, IP video surveillance, VoIP and intercom suppliers are well-positioned to “leapfrog” entrenched video door phone providers, says IMS Research Analyst Emma Chapman.

“Very few companies currently offer a full IP video door phone system,” she says. “The majority of companies that do are not key players in the video door phone market. Most of the established players in the market are either still developing or just launching an IP product.”

IP-based systems offer added functionality to end users such as remote access, improved image resolution. They also offer the ability to integrate a range of devices. However, the current cost of an IP video door phone is notably higher than a 2 or 4/5 wire system. Large and high-end applications are the main targets for IP suppliers right now. In particular, this applies to products using an existing IP network.

Several new IP video door phones launched last year with more product releases planned in 2011. Still, traditional providers are expected to remain competitive, given widespread knowledge of the industry and established client and distribution dealings, according to the report.
