PALO ALTO, Calif. — True integration between physical and IT security won’t happen as long as there isn’t an open systems structure where the two act as one. That’s the assessment of an analyst at market research firm Frost & Sullivan.
Sapan Agarwal, who has authored a report on building system integration, says it has less to do with the state of technology than it does the psychology of people.
“If it was a technological issue, it would just be a matter of a few years. This relates to the perceptions of people,” says Agarwal. “Both sides are very protective of their domains … as soon as physical security person comes into the picture, the IT guy is very protective.”
