Richardson Electronics, which distributes security products, has announced it is entering the RFID smart card market. Richardson says its first RFID offering will come from a partnership with WJ Communications Inc. to represent the global sales channel for its multiprotocol MPR 5000 and MPR 6000 RFID reader cards.
The MPR6000 will be packaged with an external RFID antenna, designed to be a “plug-n-play” solution for RFID developers.
Richardson says it is in dialogue with multiple hardware and middleware partners about creating RFID solutions for its security, communications and medical customers.
“RFID offerings are a natural extension of Richardson’s technical expertise,” said Gregory Peloquin, executive vice president and general manager of Richardson’s RF and Wireless Communications Group, in a statement.
