SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Following the recent release of the Ring Video Doorbell 3 and Video Doorbell 3 Plus, the Amazon-owned company is launching the second generation of Ring Alarm.
Maybe the most notable changes to the new alarm system are with the keypad, which is slimmer and about half the size of the previous generation. The keypad also introduces one-touch buttons for emergency services.
The former generation sported square buttons on the numeric keypads to enter PINs. Those have been replaced with rounded buttons. Also, buttons used to arm and disarm the system have been split into three separate buttons above the number keys.
Newly designed motion detectors and contact sensors are also smaller and said to be easier to mount. Ring bills the new system as “a great fit for condos and apartments.” The kit includes one base station, one keypad, one contact sensor, one motion detector and one range extender. The price for the basic starter kit is $199.99.
Once the DIY system is set up, users can manage it from the Ring app for Android and iOS. Plus, they can integrate smart lights, doorbells and security cameras with the system.
While the Ring Alarm system can alert users if a sensor goes off or if it detects motion, the company offers professional monitoring through its Protect Plus plan for $10 per month or $100 a year. The monitoring plan enables cellular backup and 60 days unlimited video recording and photo capture for Ring cameras.
The new offering is scheduled to begin shipping April 29.
