Robber Decides to Turn Himself In After Seeing CCTV Footage on TV

ALBANY, N.Y.

A suspected bank robber in Albany, N.Y. tried to turn himself in to police after seeing a surveillance tape of a robbery on the local television news, but was told by police to “come back later.” A CCTV system captured the recent robbery at the Charter One Bank in Albany and that footage was shown on local TV.

Darrell Lewis says he saw the surveillance footage on the nightly news and decided to come clean to police. However, according to WRGB-TV, Lewis says when he tried to turn himself in, he was told to come back the next day. He went to another Albany police station where he succeeded in getting himself arrested.

Albany police are investigating the claim.
