S.F. Giants to Install Biometric Verification System at AT&T Park
The Clear biometric verification system will allow season ticket holders to bypass security lines at the ballpark.
SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco Giants franchise has signed a deal with biometric security company Clear to provide a pre-screening process currently used at airports, to allow a select group of baseball fans to bypass security lines at AT&T Park.
The security upgrade comes after Major League Baseball mandated tighter security at all ballparks, which includes metal detectors or electromagnetic wands at entrances, San Francisco Gate reports.
The new program, which rolls out May 1, will allow 300 season ticket holders picked in a lottery-style draft to go to a special line at AT&T Park’s crowded main entrance. The selected ticket holders must sign up through Clear, giving their driver’s license numbers and fingerprints.
Individuals who already have Clear memberships, whether season-ticket holders or not, can also use the fast lane. Despite the Clear memberships, which will allow ticket holders to bypass metal detectors, fans will still undergo bag checks by security.
The Clear service, which costs fliers $179 per year, will be free for Giants fans. However, fans signing up for Clear will not be able to bypass airport lines unless they pay for the full membership and go through a Transportation Security Association (TSA) pre-screening process.

The Giants began testing the Clear system at the last 10 regular games in September. During the test, Clear, which now serves 10 airports, installed one of its airport kiosks at the ballpark. This year, Clear will use a tablet to scan fingerprints and verify each fan’s identity.
