Salt Lake City Man Scams Elderly Woman of Thousands After Posing as Home Security Rep, Police Say

Police are looking for 33-year-old Lanny Warren Outcalt, who disappeared after elderly woman paid him $5,000.

SALT LAKE CITY — Police are searching for a man they say scammed thousands of dollars from an elderly woman after posing as a representative of her home security company.

KUTV reports that detectives are searching for 33-year-old Lanny Warren Outcalt. The man is accused of convincing an 87-year-old woman to go to the bank with him and take out $5,000 while he sat outside on the curb.

“It appears Outcalt is targeting homes with alarm signs in the yards,” Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell said. “When confronted by the homeowners, he claims to work for the alarm company on their sign and says he’s there to upgrade or repair their system.”

Bell went on to add that Outcalt appears to be targeting the elderly.

After the withdrawal, Outcalt disappeared with the money, police said.

“We’re real concerned that he may have already done this to other victims and we don’t know about it,” Bell said.
