Salvation Army Store Resorts to Security Cameras Following Multiple Break-Ins
The charitable goods store in Buffalo hopes a donated security camera system will prevent future thefts.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A Salvation Army store here figured it was high time to get proactive following a spate of thievery that began around Thanksgiving and continued till Christmas Eve.

Five times in that period the charitable goods outlet has had its drop-off bins ransacked. Locks have been cut, goods stolen and police say they don’t have any leads, WSBT-TV, a CBS affiliate, reports. Now the store’s manager, Chris Chronowski, says he plans to install security cameras that were donated by a local company after replacing the locks on four bins several times.
“I come out and then I come to this, where the locks are cut and on the ground. And everything is open,” Chronowski told WSBT-TV. “It’s sad to see that people have to resort to taking things you know can be helping others. The family stores do support all of the adult rehabilitation centers in the Northwest Indiana region, so it takes away from them.”

This isn’t just a problem for the Salvation Army. Located across the street, a Goodwill outlet confirmed with WSBT-TV that the same thing is happening there.
Those incidents were reported to South Bend police, who say they’re going to have more officers patrolling the area. They’re asking for the public’s help if they see or have seen suspicious activity near donation bins.
