Samsung Techwin, Samsung | GVI Security and Samsung Electronics will combine its brands to market under one Samsung label in the United States beginning in the new year, SSI has learned.
The companies will merge effective Jan. 1. in an effort to reorganize the separate video surveillance operations into one Samsung security business, GVI Chairman Steven Walin tells SSI.
“Where we see this eventually evolving to is there will be one Samsung product line. It won’t be Samsung Electronics, it won’t be called Samsung Techwin; it will simply be called Samsung,” Walin says. “We are really thrilled that this move has been made at the Samsung Group level in Korea and that these two businesses will be put together to end the confusion that has been taking place in the market for the past several years.”
Carrollton, Texas-based GVI Security Solutions, which markets the complete line of Samsung Electronics video surveillance products, in October entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired and taken private by investment funds managed by GenNx360 Capital Partners. The company will remain an active participant in the Samsung reorganization.
“We will play a major role in rolling this new branding out for the Americas as we have for Samsung Electronics for the past 10 years and those discussions are ongoing right now,” Walin says.
SSI will continue to update this story as more information becomes available, as well as provide further coverage of GenNx360’s purchase of GVI Security Solutions.
