Schmidt Security Pro Celebrates 40th Anniversary

The Ohio-based security company has had to adapt to a changing market landscape many times in its 40 year history.

MANSFIELD, Ohio – Schmidt Security Pro has offered a number of different services in its 40 years of business.

“I started with polygraph testing,” says founder and CEO Bill Schmidt. “We added investigation, guard service and camera surveillance.”

The company opened in 1976 and was originally located in downtown Mansfield, Ohio. It moved to it’s current and much larger location at 241 Industrial Parkway in 1990.

“It was about half the size of this break room. It was myself and another person or two,” says Schmidt.

Schmidt Security Pro’s initial growth was in its guard division. At one point there were 160 security officers and over 50 guard accounts.

The company has since evolved to better suit the needs of today’s customers. “A homeowner is a lot different than a school or bank or hospital,” says Schmidt. “For a homeowner, often it’s intruder detection and fire detection.”

Bills son, Brian Schmidt, has been with the company nearly 20 years and is now President.

He believes the next big trend is data security and envisions it as the company’s next endeavor. “Data has become as valuable as physical property in some cases,” says Brian Schmidt.
