IR Security & Safety’s Electronic Access Control Division has helped boost security at the Newark Unified School District by installing 573 Schlage computer-managed (CM) locks. Newark facilities managers initiated the security overhaul to reduce costs and save time with re-keying locks throughout the district.

“The district made a commitment to put in the computer managed locks for a multitude of reasons,” says David Goldin, Director of Facilities at the New-ark Unified School District. “The district desired that all employees wear identifi-cation badges, and what better way to get people to wear ID badges at all times than to make the badges the key that opens doors.”

All libraries, gyms, exterior class-rooms, hall entrances and offices re-ceived the new locks, which cost the district approximately $500 each, a dis-counted bulk price. The lock installation process began in September 2002 and was completed in August.
