School District Increases Security After Stabbing

CORONA, Calif.

Officials with the Corona-Norco Unified School District in California have approved a safety plan calling for security cameras and an increase in security staff. The plan’s approval followed the stabbing and death of a 15-year-old high school student on May 11, according to the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.

Plans to improve security developed after hundreds of students and parents attended a board meeting on May 17 to complain about the use of racial slurs and the occurrence of fights at school and in the community.

Tom Pike, assistant superintendent of student services for Corona-Norco Unified, said the district will create a group to evaluate the plan, valued at $1 million when fully implemented, and other security concerns at the schools.
