System Development Integration LLC (SDI), a systems integrator specializing in airport command center security technologies and infrastructure, announces it has been contracted by the city of Los Angeles, Department of Airports (also known as Los Angeles World Airports, or LAWA) to design and implement its Airport Response Coordination Center, ARCC. The 14-month, $2.3 million project is part of a multiphased initiative that will result in a new consolidated Center for Los Angeles Int’l Airport (LAX).
To date, SDI has determined the LAWA Center’s technical platform requirements, concentrating on 26 disparate technologies including traditional security systems (video surveillance, access controls, and computer-aided dispatch), work management, gate management, building automation, and geographic information systems (GIS). The SDI team conducted interviews and site surveys to identify both existing and requested organizational, process, and technology capabilities to ensure alignment of stakeholder requirements in the final technical design.
The SDI Team — which features several former airport executives and specialty technicians versed in TSA, FAA and NIMS standards — facilitated Concept of Operations (CONOPS) workshops to thoroughly vet the future technology elements within LAWA’s operational environment to ensure Day One operational continuity. SDI delivered a robust blueprint for the new center, including technology requirements, project plan, and budget for the center’s technology platform.
SDI’s technical requirements have been incorporated into the airport system’s ARCC Hardware/ Software/Services Request for Proposals, which is presently out for bid. The SDI team is currently detailing technical specifications and assisting LAWA in final product selection, and is on schedule to meet the airport’s anticipated go-live date later this year.
