The Seattle suburb of Mercer Island is looking into using video surveillance to solve a recent string of vandalism at a local park. The parks manager for the city of Mercer Island is seeking a three-camera CCTV system for Island Crest Park that is motion-activated and records for up to 12 days, according to the Seattle Times.
Vandals have caused $2,000 in damage to the park in the past two months, including causing two fires, cutting down the American flag and slashing down batting cages.
The Mercer Island City Council will consider whether to fund the system, estimated to cost up to $8,000, next week.
