Security Sales & Integration’s SAMMY Awards honor excellence in a host of categories — everything from vehicle graphics design to promotional giveaways to social media campaigns. One category, however, enfolds all the various metrics of excellence in an effort to identify a single firm that stands apart: Installer of the Year.

This year’s Installer of the Year honoree is Securitas Technology, a global leader in commercial electronic security, as well as health and safety technologies, with approximately $3.5 billion in total sales and operational capabilities in more than 40 countries worldwide.

SSI asks Tony Byerly, global president, Securitas Technology, to reflect on the distinct honor of being crowned 2025 Installer of the Year. Moreover, Byerly offers insight into the company culture, foundational values and strategic pivots that have helped Securitas Technology distinguish itself.

Installer of the Year Boasts Suite of Security Solutions

One differentiator that Securitas Technology enjoys is its comprehensive suite of integrated security solutions. Its core strengths include access control, video, intrusion and fire systems.

“We design, install, integrate, service and monitor these systems to deliver end-to-end protection tailored to our clients’ needs,” Byerly affirms.

Moreover, Securitas Technology’s offerings include remote video monitoring, cloud-based security services, and professional and managed services that support every stage of the security journey.

Notably, Securitas Technology provides a long-term, scalable partnership for its clients, irrespective of their size or their security program complexity.

“As our clients’ trusted partner — wherever they are on their journey — we specialize in integrating security across environments,” Byerly declares, “with solutions optimized to their unique regulatory requirements, risk profiles, operational needs and security program objectives.”

That means Securitas Technology is uniquely positioned to help protect businesses of all types and sizes, as well as security risk profiles, across a host of industries. Commercial offices, industrial facilities, healthcare settings, retail stores, financial services centers and education environments are just a few examples.

A Living, Breathing Company Culture

One commonality among past and present Installer of the Year honorees is that they live and breathe their company culture. It’s not a collection of platitudes on an “About Us” webpage; rather, it’s a day-to-day lived reality. At Securitas Technology, the culture is deeply rooted in three core values: integrity, vigilance and helpfulness.

“These values are not just symbolic,” Byerly emphasizes. “They are the foundation of how we lead, collaborate and support one another across our global organization. Integrity reflects our commitment to doing what’s right; vigilance drives our attentiveness to potential risks; and helpfulness defines our readiness to support both clients and colleagues.”

Those principles are embedded in Securitas Technology’s daily operations, and the three red dots in the company’s logo symbolize them.

For those who work at Securitas Technology, the unifying purpose is clear: The shared mission is nothing less than to help make the world a safer place. And that purpose, Byerly says, fuels everything that Securitas Technology does: the technologies it develops, the way it engages with clients and communities, etc.

More broadly, Byerly says, the company recognizes that its people are the foundation of its success.

“[That] is why we are committed to our ‘People Promise,’” he declares, which he describes as “a shared commitment to creating a workplace where every individual feels seen, valued and empowered to grow.”

This promise reflects what seems to matter most to Securitas Technology team members — namely, purpose-driven work, career development, an environment of inclusion and collaboration, commitment to innovation and sustainability, and the constant pursuit of excellence.

Securitas Technology boasts a particularly refined approach to training and recognizing associates, and ensuring they feel heard.

“We listen to our employees through regular surveys and feedback loops, engage them in programs that reflect their goals, keep them informed through webinars and town halls, and celebrate their contributions through global appreciation campaigns,” Byerly says. It’s an all-of-the-above strategy that clearly has borne fruit.

Installer of Year Offers Values-Driven Leadership

A mindful company culture is indispensable, but it’s hard to achieve without values-driven leadership. At Securitas Technology, Byerly and his leadership team ground themselves in three foundational pillars: client-centricity, employee engagement and results-driven performance.

This prevents ad hoc decision-making and ensures a steady hand at the helm.

According to Byerly, Securitas Technology leadership places clients at the heart of everything they do — listening carefully, understanding their challenges and delivering intelligent, scalable solutions to address evolving security needs.

“Through initiatives like our Global Technology Outlook Report, which explores emerging trends in electronic security; strategic advisory services and thought-leadership engagements, such as our annual Security Symposium; and digital client platforms, such as SecureStat HQ, we strive to be a trusted long-term partner,” he says, distinguishing that from being “just a provider.”

Returning to Securitas Technology’s “People Promise,” Byerly says his leadership team strives to ensure every associate feels valued, supported and inspired to grow.

“We foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion and continuous development,” he describes, “recognizing that each individual’s background, expertise and perspective contributes to our collective success.”

Consider just two concrete examples: Securitas Technology, in partnership with the Security Industry Association (SIA), developed a hands-on Technician Apprenticeship Program. Plus, the company’s Technician Certification Program offers structured advancement through Certified, Master Certified and Elite Certified levels.

Turning finally to results-driven performance, Securitas Technology’s leadership continually strives for measurable impact.

“We set ambitious goals, track progress rigorously and hold ourselves accountable to high standards,” Byerly declares, “whether in client outcomes, operational excellence or sustainability.”

A prime example is Securitas Technology’s environment-minded commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030.

“We also work closely with our strategic technology partners and suppliers to bring greener, more energy-efficient solutions to market,” Byerly notes. “And we provide emissions data directly within client proposals to support more informed, sustainable decision-making.”

A Transformative Strategic Pivot

In recent years, Securitas Technology has undergone one of the most transformative strategic pivots in its history, and it’s centered on the growing importance of electronic security in a rapidly evolving threat landscape.

A defining moment came with the acquisition of STANLEY Security and STANLEY Healthcare, which, at $3.2 billion, is one of the industry’s largest-ever acquisitions.

According to Byerly, the move “…significantly expanded our technological competencies, operational capabilities, client base and global footprint.”

He continues, “This strategic investment positioned us as the leader in commercial electronic security globally, marking a major milestone in Securitas’ transformation with the doubling of our electronic security business and the launch of Securitas Technology as a key pillar in the overall business portfolio.”

Leadership executed the STANLEY integration with a clear focus: to create the world’s leading security technology provider.

“We brought together two strong legacies under one unified brand — Securitas Technology — and successfully aligned systems, teams and service models,” Byerly describes.

This integration — one that Byerly characterizes as “a ‘creation’ of the industry’s new global leader in commercial electronic security” — has enhanced the organization’s ability to offer end-to-end integrated solutions across access control, video, intrusion and fire.

Moreover, it has accelerated Securitas Technology’s digital transformation efforts. Platforms like SecureStat HQ now provide clients with centralized visibility, real-time insights and greater control over their security operations.

For Securitas Technology, a company focused on measurable impact, the success of this strategic pivot bears out in its strengthened market position, expanded global reach and newly enhanced ability to meet the complex, technology-driven security needs of businesses today.

How Installer of the Year Overcomes Challenges

When SSI asks Byerly for the single biggest challenge that Securitas Technology faces at this moment, he doesn’t hesitate in offering a response: the rapidly evolving threat landscape — in particular, the convergence of physical and cyber risks — and the accelerating pace of technological change.

“As security threats become more sophisticated and interconnected, the demand for integrated, intelligent and cyber-resilient security solutions has never been greater,” he observes.

This shift is reshaping client expectations; moreover, it’s redefining the role of security providers in a digital-first world. This does pose fresh challenges, to be sure, but it also presents abundant opportunity.

Byerly says the Securitas Technology leadership team is adopting a multi-dimensional approach to address all this.

“We are investing heavily in research and development to stay ahead of emerging threats and to innovate in areas such as AI-driven analytics, cloud-based platforms and cybersecurity-enhanced physical security systems,” he attests. “We are also strengthening our cybersecurity posture internally and across our client solutions.”

That means ensuring its technologies meet high standards of data protection and resilience.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, given Securitas Technology’s ‘People Promise,’ a key part of its strategy centers on workforce readiness.

“Through initiatives like our Securitas Technology Technician Certification Program and apprenticeship pathways, we are upskilling our operations teams to ensure they are equipped to implement and support next-generation security technologies,” Byerly says.

Plus, Securitas Technology actively works to foster strategic partnerships with top manufacturers and technologists to accelerate innovation and bring solutions to market faster.

Ultimately, Byerly says, it amounts to a proactive, forward-looking strategy that’s not only about mitigating current risks but also about positioning Securitas Technology for long-term success.

‘To Be the Best’

SSI asks Byerly about Securitas Technology’s biggest ambitions over the coming years. His response is equal parts pithy and profound.

“Our ambition is to be the best at everything we do,” Byerly declares, saying that his gauge for this is driving real value for clients around the world.

Foundational to his team’s and his approach is developing deeper expertise and smarter solutions, while also adhering to Securitas Technology’s steadfast commitment to sustainability.

“We are reinforcing our position as trusted advisors by helping clients navigate the unique challenges, regulations and threat landscapes of their sectors,” Byerly explains.

The Securitas Technology team understands that each industry and each client — from healthcare and retail to critical infrastructure and data centers to financial services and education — faces distinct risks. The organization seeks, therefore, to tailor solutions accordingly.

“Our teams bring specialized knowledge and consultative support to help clients make informed, proactive decisions that strengthen their security posture,” Byerly declares.

What’s more, Byerly’s leadership team is also eager to build a more connected, more scalable business, leveraging automation, data, AI and platform integration to enhance performance and efficiency.

“This includes advancing the software and client experience layer,” Byerly details, “ensuring our digital platforms are intuitive, responsive and aligned with the evolving expectations of modern enterprises.”

Installer of the Year Embraces Industry Trends

SSI asks Byerly about trends in physical or electronic security that will affect Securitas Technology’s business before we enter the 2030s. In response, he points to the convergence of AI, cloud-based platforms and data-driven intelligence.

“These technologies are redefining how we approach threat detection, operational efficiency and client value delivery,” Byerly opines.

Securitas Technology believes that the security industry is moving toward a proactive model. This model, Byerly says, “…leverages real-time analytics, predictive insights and remote-first service capabilities to not only respond to risks but also anticipate and prevent them.”

Although this vision entails near-limitless opportunity, the Securitas Technology leadership team recognizes that it also requires a careful strategy, ongoing innovation and continued investment in people and platforms.

“That’s why we develop and publish our annual Global Technology Outlook Report,” Byerly states. This highly anticipated industry resource synthesizes insights from top manufacturers and technologists, end users from around the world, the company’s Client Advisory Board and internal subject matter experts.

“This report is designed to help our clients navigate the rapidly evolving security technology landscape with clarity,” Byerly continues. “It highlights key trends like advancements in AI, the growing role of sustainability in purchasing decisions, increased integration of intelligent sensors and the rise of cloud-native security infrastructure.”

Given Securitas Technology’s ambitious vision — to be unrivaled as the global leader in commercial electronic security and health and safety technologies — executives like Byerly recognize that the company must lead the conversation around these shifts.

Moreover, it’s imperative for Securitas Technology to empower clients with the tools and foresight to stay ahead.

“We take this industry thought leadership very seriously as our clients’ trusted advisor,” Byerly says.

Installer of Year and Strategic Business Enabler

According to Byerly, one of the most underappreciated aspects of Securitas Technology is how it redefines security from just a protective layer to a strategic business enabler.

“While many still view electronic security through the lens of risk mitigation or regulatory compliance,” he acknowledges, “Securitas Technology is pioneering a more integrated, forward-thinking approach.”

Consider, for example, retail applications of intelligent video analytics, which can track customer flow and dwell time, thus offering benefits in optimizing store layouts and staffing levels.

In healthcare, integrated access control and identity management systems ensure that only authorized personnel enter sensitive areas, while also supporting regulatory compliance (e.g., HIPAA).

In critical infrastructure, remote monitoring and predictive maintenance, powered by IoT sensors, reduces downtime and operational risk. Finally, in corporate environments, cloud-based platforms allow centralized control of multi-site security systems, improving responsiveness and reducing administrative overhead.

“These solutions not only enhance safety and security,” Byerly declares, “but also drive efficiency, improve user experience and support sustainability goals.” They’re cases in point of how to leverage security to achieve a competitive advantage.

A Word of Advice

It seems fitting to ask our SAMMY-winning Installer of the Year for a word of advice for the security professionals working in the industry today.

Byerly says that, far beyond managing access control and intrusion systems, today’s security professionals should play a pivotal role in shaping environments that are not only secure but also intelligent, efficient and resilient.

“[Security professionals] are no longer reactive responders to incidents,” he emphasizes. “They are proactive risk advisors who anticipate threats, interpret data and design solutions that align with operational goals and industry-specific challenges.”

By staying attuned to emerging technologies, the regulatory landscape and evolving threat vectors, security professionals can help organizations navigate complexity with confidence.

Their work spans physical infrastructure, people and processes; in short, they ensure that security is not a siloed function but, rather, a value-driving force embedded across the enterprise.

“In doing so,” Byerly concludes, “[it’s possible to] elevate the perception of security from a cost center to a strategic asset — one that protects, enables and empowers.”

Words of Gratitude

Byerly closes with words of gratitude for earning this coveted SAMMY Award. “We are incredibly proud to be recognized as Installer of the Year by Security Sales & Integration,” he enthuses.

Byerly frames the recognition as a testament to Securitas Technology’s commitment to excellence across every facet of the business — from project execution and innovation to client satisfaction to field performance to employee engagement.

“We’re deeply proud of this milestone,” he reflects, “and, more importantly, grateful to our global teams whose passion, expertise and hard work made this achievement possible.”

Byerly closes with a note of humility, emphasizing that this honor is a collective achievement.

“At Securitas Technology, we believe success is shared,” he says. “And this recognition is one we proudly share with every employee, every client and every partner who continues to place their trust in us.”
