Security contractor and monitoring provider Safeguard Security and Communications has increased its presence in the Southwest after acquiring the alarm division of Santa Fe, N.M.-based Akal Security. Terms of the deal — which Safeguard says makes it the No. 2 security provider in Santa Fe — were not disclosed.
The Akal purchase adds 200 commercial accounts for Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Safeguard. Previously, 90 percent of the Safeguard accounts in the area were residential.
“Acquiring Akal’s alarm division was strategically valuable to Safeguard in terms of increasing market share,” said Safeguard CEO John Jennings said in a prepared statement.
