A new regulatory era is in store for the security industry in Quebec if the Canadian Security Association (CANASA) has its way. The likelihood of this becoming a reality has greatly increased since Bill 88 passed in the Quebec National Assembly.
Bill 88 is designed to regulate a number of private security services. Included are security guard services, alarm monitoring, life safety, goods and sites protection, investigation, locksmiths, electronic security systems, armored car services, and security consultant services. The newly passed legislation calls for a Private Security Bureau, which will establish regulations that will govern each element of the overall security mission. Included in this mandate is the issuance of permits to companies and individuals.
“We’ve been at this for over 10 years,” says Quebec Chapter President Normand Fiset. “And we’re very pleased that all our hard work has finally paid off.”
