Door-knocking is a controversial marketing technique. While it can be fruitful for the companies deploying them, it is generally frowned upon by the public. One of the more commonly seen companies canvassing neighborhoods is Vivint.
The company is no stranger to landing in hot water with its door-to-door salespeople. The most recent incident occurred in a North Carolina town, where Vivint had its solicitation permit revoked after hearing complaints from residents.
While door-knocking is still a popular sales tools, there are numerous other effective marketing methods that are being employed by the security industry.
The 2019 SSI Sales & Marketing Survey examines what security integrators and dealers are doing to help grow their business. The survey found that the industry is relying more on electronic-based presentations, bundled services, social media, trade shows and email to win business, among others.
