LEXINGTON, Ky. – A man who was detained at the Madison County Detention Center has filed a lawsuit against three deputy jailers and a police offer after surveillance video emerged of the group allegedly assaulting the inmate.
In February 2013, John Hanson was arrested after getting to a fight at a local bar. Hanson was charged with disorderly conduct and booked at the Madison County Detention Center. However, he claims that during the booking process, the situation escalated into a violent attack, LEX18.com reports.
The jail’s incident report filed the day of Hanson’s arrest states deputy jailers physically restrained Hanson after he “took a combative stance.”
In the surveillance footage, Hanson is seen arguing with deputies, but not taking any threatening action before a deputy jailer grabs his throat. Three more men are seen joining in the attack.
In his lawsuit, Hanson says he was released from jail the next day and spent four to five days in the hospital due to traumatic injuries, including a labrum tear in his right shoulder.
He is seeking damages for pain, suffering and medical expenses.
